Your notes stay with you

Aloha has no accounts and keeps no copy of your notes. This page says where things are kept.

No account, no analytics

You don’t sign up for Aloha, so we don’t have your name or email unless you write to us. The app has no analytics, no tracking and no advertising code, and neither does this site; this site sets no cookies.

Like any website, Aloha and this site are served by a hosting provider (Vercel), which sees ordinary request details such as your IP address in order to deliver the pages.

A world started in Aloha

If you start fresh, your notes and your map are kept in your browser’s storage on your device (localStorage, and IndexedDB for pictures and files you attach). They are not sent anywhere. Clearing this site’s data in your browser deletes them, so carry notes off the map as Markdown if you want a copy.

An Obsidian vault

Aloha reads and writes your vault inside your browser using the browser’s own folder access. Your files stay on your device and are never uploaded. Aloha writes only what you change, plus its map file, Aloha.canvas. Where you walked and which notes you visited is kept in the browser, not in your vault.

Notion

When you sign in with Notion, Notion gives Aloha a token for the pages you chose. Aloha keeps it in your browser in an encrypted, HttpOnly, Secure cookie, which page scripts can’t read. Requests to Notion go through Aloha’s server only to attach that token; the server stores no tokens and no page content. Pictures and files from Notion are passed through to your browser and not kept.

So that your world opens quickly, page text is cached in your browser, along with the map’s positions. Disconnecting Notion removes the cookie; the cache stays in the browser until you clear this site’s data. To withdraw Aloha’s access entirely, remove its connection in Notion’s settings.
